Problem
The owners had bought a Tesla Model 3 and were charging it from a granny cable plugged into a 13 A kitchen socket. The plug top was noticeably warm after an hour, and they wanted to make better use of the solar system that was otherwise exporting to the grid at 5p/kWh.
Solution
Survey confirmed spare capacity on the 100 A service. We ran a 6 mm² SWA cable from the meter tails through the airing cupboard to a side-return wall, fitted the Zappi with a dedicated 32 A RCBO and Type A + 6 mA DC protection, and clipped a CT clamp around the incoming live to enable ECO+ solar diversion.
Outcome
Three hours on site, OZEV grant submitted on the owners’ behalf and deducted at invoice, and a first full overnight charge powered almost entirely by accumulated daytime solar generation.
