Full rewire, 1910 Victorian villa

Problem

The owners had been nursing flickering downlights and repeated RCD trips for years. An EICR flagged fourteen C2 observations and the insurer refused to renew buildings cover without remediation. The builder’s quote for a gutted rewire meant moving out for three weeks — unworkable with two primary-school children.

Solution

We planned the job in three zones, one floor at a time, with a dust-sealed working area and a nightly tidy. New LSZH cable routed through existing service voids where possible to minimise chasing. A new 18th-Edition metal consumer unit with RCBOs per circuit, integrated SPD, and a BS 5839-6 interlinked smoke and heat detector system.

Outcome

Nine working days on site, no overnight displacement, zero snagging items, and a Part-P notified Electrical Installation Certificate in the owners’ inbox within 48 hours of handover. Buildings insurance renewed the next day.
